Q: Do they really eat a lot ?
A: They're just like people some do some don't. Quality is as important as qauntity.
Q: Are they friendly ?
A: They tend to reflect their owners like most dogs they are what you make of them but they do tend to crave human company and can easily be brought up to love children and other pets.
Q: I've decided I want to give a home to a Mastiff how do I find out where best to 'buy' one ?
A: The million pound question, personally I recommend that people meet other owners of Mastiffs and look at the different breeders dogs for themselves. The only way to do this really is to put yourself out and visit championship or breed dog shows . My advice would be never ever by from a newspaper ad or a shop . Most good breeders will expect to get to know you a little before considering you for one of their puppies .
Q: Is the kennel club a good place to obtain a list of available puppies ?
A: The kennel club will place puppies on the list as long as the sire and damm are KC registered . The list is no guarantee of quality re breeder or puppies , in fact many good breeders will not put there puppies on the list as they will have a list of waiting applicants . I would not recommend that a first time owner obtains a puppy in this way because you will go to see a puppy off of the list and will have nothing there to compare it with , you will most likely see the cute puppy and buy it ( let's face it who wouldn't?).
Q: Overall are Mastiffs an expensive dog to keep ?
A: If your asking the question forget Mastiffs 'seriously !!'.
Q: Will the ukmastiff site send me a list of breeders near me
A: No , and I am not being awkward but if you read the rest of the faq's and the rest of the site you'll see why.
Q: Can you recommend a good book for newcomers?
A: Yes I can.'The Complete Mastiff',this book has been invaluable to Tracey and I as well as many others. You can order the book from any good book shop or via the web.
Q: Can you put a saddle on Mastiffs and ride them ?
a: It really is a common comment by witty passers by and of course no you can't under any circumstances , it isnt even funny so we recommend a pony for this.
